ORANGE BABIES

ORANGE BABIES
27.07.2009
Yesterday: the Orange Babies show. Orange Babies is an organisation that helps HIV infected mothers and babies in Afrika. They frequently organize fund raisers and this fashion show was one of them.
From a fashion point of view, the show wasn't ultimately interesting. It was very nice though, and also my fashion heart was touched here and there. And have you ever seen a full blown horse on a catwalk?? Well, since yesterday, I have.

CHANEL LOVER

CHANEL LOVER
27.07.2009
A strange thing is happening. I am becoming a Chanel lover. I've never been particulary interested in the brand. I've always found it a bit boring and for old people. Well, I am probably becoming one of those old people.

I must say that Chanel is doing a lot of great PR lately, so this might have something to with it. They make sure to be 'on trend' with Beth Ditto, Lily Allen and girls like that in their entourage. Maybe Karl is rejuvenating his brand or something. In any case, Chanel seems to be more on top of things than a few years back. In fact, one of the must have items for Fall 2009 is a (fake) Chanel jacket. I'm already very much searching for one to call my own.

LICHTING 2009

24.07.2009
Yesterday I went to Lichting 2009 in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. It was just amazing! I was blown away by the show. Every year, Lichting shows the best newcomers in the fashion world. One winner is chosen by people from the audience and a professional jury. Garance Doré was in the jury this year.

Back to Lichting 2009. As you can see my pictures aren't great (understatement) but they'll have to do. Oh, and the winner was Ann Boogaerts. It was completely deserved. I especially liked her shoes with embellished socks.

GARANCE

GARANCE
24.07.2009
Last Tueaday I visited Foam in Amsterdam to listen to a lecture given by Anneke Beerkens about fashionblogs. This cultural anthropologist studied the fenomenon for a few months in Japan, where is all started. Naturally, I was very intrigued by the subject. Especially because Garance Doré was also there! My favourite fashion blogger was there, in the flesh!
Beforehand I convinced myself that a little chat with Garance should definitely be possible, but I didn't really believe it myself. But... after the lecture we spoke for a while and I got to ask her some questions about fashion and stuff like that. She is very, very nice I must say. Very open and funny and down to earth.
At the end of our little talk I slipped her a note with the adress of my very own INSPI website on it.. let's hope she'll take a peek!

Yesterday was the first official night of Amsterdam International Fashion Week. I went to Hans Ubbink in Paradiso in Amsterdam. The program for the rest of the week: Claes Iversen, Replay, Daryl van Wouw and Lichting 2009 (new talent). And a meeting with Garance Doré!!! Looking forward to it!

WHY??

WHY??
Why don't we have Topshop in Amsterdam?? Come on people, if you can open a store in New York, why not in our little country?

It's getting so frustrating. Topshop has great jeans and shoes. And the prices are ok. H&M just can't compete since they're way less fashion forward. Check out these boots. Love them, will not be able to buy them unless a trip to Londen is made. What the *?

STAR

STAR
My favourite necklace. It's very simple and small and that's what I like about it. It's subtle but present. And I love stars, they're happy and hopeful.

The necklace is by Jane Konig and I bought it at Rika. I like Rika, I especially like they're jewellery and their bags (they're clothes are a bit girly for me). And the fact that they're selling Alexander Wang! But despite the price, the quality of their products is debatable. I bought their grey Star Bag a couple of months ago, and after a few weeks I realised that my once grey bag had turned completely brown. Hmm... And my dear necklace, that's supposed to be solid silver, is now turning yellow here and there... They need to work on that!

COCO DUFFEL BAG

COCO DUFFEL BAG
My new obsession du jour: the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel Bag.
I love this bag. It's cool, sexy, stylish and so totally me. I like to think.
But it's not a cheap bag I'm afraid. It helps if you buy it in the US, with the dollar and the euro and all.
Anyone going to Manhattan? Please drop by Barney's for me. I'll pay you back, I promise!

DUTCH ACNE
Great news! Acne has opened a store in the Negen Straatjes in Amsterdam! You can find it in the Oude Spiegelstraat number 8. The shop is called Acne Studio. I'm dropping by tomorrow, I'll let you know if it's good or bad (must be good..)!

AND THE BRIDE WORE... PANTS!

AND THE BRIDE WORE... PANTS!
Every girl sometimes fantasies about her wedding. Is it gonna be private or public, low key or hysterical, am I going to wear white? Especially this last question is a big one.

I have to conclude that Dutch brides are not very original in their choice of dress. Most women marry in white, strapless gowns, with a small pearl necklace and long gloves. I hate this. Why so boring? Why no color? Why strapless, ALWAYS?? Why not.. pants?

That's why I love this Givenchy Couture 2009 outfit so much. It's very bridal but also funky and so not typical. The bride wore pants! Have you ever heard that before??

HOPE

HOPE
Buying shoes with the boyfriend at SPRMRKT in Amsterdam.
They're by Hope, a fantastic new brand from Scandinavia. Hope makes clothes for men and women but I'm more into their stuff for men. Their clothes and accessories are beautifully made from great materials, but rough enough for a guy to still look sexy in them.

We have a new painting and I'm so happy. It's technically not ours, we have it on loan. But I will enjoy it so much as long as this pleasure lasts.

I DID IT

I DID IT
I told you about my obsession with black and grey. And that I never buy items of clothing in a real color. Well my dear readers, I did it! I bought a BLUE jacket! I'm very proud of myself, especially because I have been wearing it a lot the past couple of days. And it's truely blue, not grey-ish blue or almost-black-navy. So, hopefully it won't stop here. I will continue on my journey!

CHRISTIAN DIOR COUTURE 2009

CHRISTIAN DIOR COUTURE 2009
Ah yes, the 2009 Couture shows are happening as we speak. First off: Christian Dior. John Galliano, the man with many faces and outfit changes, is the genius behind this huge fashion house. And he is the master of couture. His collection for 2009 is so fierce. It's fifties housewive meets prostitute. The whole show is based on the jarretelle. Even the shoes have straps that remind us of this sexy lingerie. John Galliano's couture shows are always a huge spectacle. He does the most outrageous stuff. It's always wild, and a bit tacky. But in a good way.

JADE

JADE
I am very fond of the color green that Karl Lagerfeld used in his Chanel Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. It's so beautiful and stylish. And the nails! THE new nailpolish for fall is Chanels 407 Jade. I tried to buy it today but it's not in stores yet.
Keep an eye out for me and let me know if you see it somewhere!

SHADES OF GREY

SHADES OF GREY
I love fashion, I love styling myself up. I like really making an effort of what I wear. But... I'm terrible with colors. I wear black. And white. I've never in my life, met a shade of grey I didn't like. Sometimes a little green or purple and if I really go all out, I wear nudes... As I said: I'm terrible with colors.

But look at the picture! This girl looks gorgeous! Why don't I wear stuff like that? I look a bit like the girl in the shot. Not her face, but her skintone and hair color. So if she can wear this, maybe I can too?

It's just a question of putting yourself out there. Make a shift in style. I've tried it before but I always come back to what I feel most comfortable in: black / grey.
It's my day off today so here's what I'm gonna do: I'm going to do some mild shopping. Or rather: some mild exploring. Ignore all the black stuff and focus on the bright tones. And then, I'm just gonna see what happens.
xa.

Ps. A few hours later: Just got back from my little shopping spree. I tried, but literally EVERYTHING I bought is black...
