THE AGE ISSUE PART II

THE AGE ISSUE PART II
25.08.2009
When one is critical of others, she should be of herselve too. Right? So, as much as I hate the thought, I really think I'm getting too old for looks like the one here.
I love the fact that she dares to wear this, it looks great! But... I'm 27 now, I can't wear that shit anymore! I have a serious job!
So, I'll just be jealous of my litlle sisters. They wear stuff like this. And they look so cute in it...

For today, a nice looking girl with a cool look.
I like it when people don't take fashion too seriously.
This girl looks a bit like a tomboy with a love for fashion.

THE AGE ISSUE

THE AGE ISSUE
21.08.2009
I've been thinking about this one for a while now: Is age appropriate dressing passť? Nowadays, it's not unusual for a woman in her fifties to look and behave like a woman in her thirties (o God, this is going to be a very generalizing column...). Older women nowadays are slim, toned, fit and free of grey hair. Women over the age of fifty do not dress like grandmothers anymore! And thank the Lord for that.

But sometimes, just sometimes, I see a woman crossing a certain border. She dresses not only young but, here I go, too young. Often despite her trained body, she looks weird and not so great. Her skirt is simply too short, her heels are too high and her make up is too screamy.

Now why is it that young girls often get away with this and mature women don't? Who knows. The silly innocence of youth? Perhaps. I don't know. Maybe, just maybe, because an older woman trying to look very young, is considered a bit tragic..?

I have to give you an example. I know. But look, this is hard because the woman I have in mind is a very well respected leader in the international fashion cult. But here I go: I just think the outfits of Anna dello Russo (fashion director, Vogue Nippon) are, despite her great legs and body, too naked! (sorry...)

THE ART OF ACCESSORIZING

THE ART OF ACCESSORIZING
18.08.2009
A beautiful piece of jewellery is a joy forever. And right now, it's very fashionable to wear not one but many of those shiny pieces together. The thing is: this is not as easy as it might seem. It's not a question of slapping one ring on top of another. It requires serious taste and consideration. So, the art of accessorizing.

A master in this craft is the very cool looking Style Editor of Elle Magazine US Kate Lanphear. She combines different watches with silver bangles, and huge punk inspired pieces with leather and spikes. And she does it with style and grace. A great example for me since I'm not really into accessorizing just yet. It's still a work in progress. So yes, I could learn a lot from Kate.

Another great accessorie example for me is Mary-Kate Olsen. Her approach is usually very much over the top and rock 'n roll, with skulls, huge green stones and a lot of gold. But... don't think she just throws something on. Her pieces are amazing vintage finds and usually very expensive. For example, I completely envy her gold Rolex watch. So bad but so good.

In the pictures you see detail shots of accessorizing ŗ la Kate and M-K.

SCROLL DOWN

SCROLL DOWN
16.08.2009
Whatís up with all the heel wearing men in the world today? Heels are made for women! I donít care how gay you are, just donít go there. A lot of gay men have amazing style. But why do some of them want to look like women? Beats me.

On my fave blog Jak & Jil I see a lot of pictures lately like the ones Iím showing here. I get it, these are very fashionable guys. They probably work in the fashion industry. Theyíre probably stylists or it-boys (or whatever). But why the heels? Why not a nice sneaker or a cool Doc Marten for the more goth chic of them. And why all the black? I love black as well and I wear a lot of it, but these guys almost made the color into a religion.

To go short: I donít get this look, especially the heels. Help?

HIPPIE SHAKE

HIPPIE SHAKE
16.08.2009
This girl, Erin Wasson, always looks so good.
Very hippie / rock stylish. And that's really the way to go these days. Fashion wise that is. It's all about a combination of hippie and rock 'n roll. Erin is a great example of a girl that has made this style her own. She is a model / designer / stylist from Texas. Also she is a surfer girl and one of Alexander Wangs muses, she even styled a few of his shows.

Not only girls nail this whole hippie / rock look though. The men do it as well, and maybe even better! Look at Jamie Hince, Devendra Banhart and Rupert Friend. These guys have taste and know exactly what they're doing. Luckily, they still look rough and cool, and not too girly or over-styled.

I found the perfect pair of black jeans.
Well, that's a statement!
They're just such a freakin' good fit. It's the Kex Smooth by Acne Jeans and I bought it at the new Acne shop in Amsterdam yesterday.
The thing is, these jeans are sooo tight, it almost hurts. But apparantly, this is the way it's supposed to be. Try them on and if you find the size that fits you right, buy one size smaller.
I just hope the button will hold!

GARANCE II

GARANCE II
11.08.2009
When I spoke to her in FOAM in Amsterdam, I asked Garance Dorť two very important questions. More important than questions about the soul of fashion, the heart of clothing and her ultimate inspirations in life. I asked her the following:
1. What did you buy last?
2. What are the 3 most important things you are going to buy next?

Ha! What do you mean superficial? These are the things I wanted to know! The woman knows fashion! I want to know what she'll be wearing this fall!

So, her answers:
1. "Everything from Zara! I love Zara! I have already bought their complete new collection!"
2. "Well, number one are thigh high boots. Probably by Isabel Marant. And number two... a little black strapless dress. Maybe by Balmain, but I'm not sure yet. And I would love to have a beautiful new clutch bag. The one I am wearing now is a vintage Cartier. I found it in a thriftstore for 5 Euro. But I have my mind set on a clutch from Miu Miu now. They are so beautifully embellished."

Yes, Zara, who doesn't love Zara? And after talking to here I can say one thing: who doesn't love Garance?

PAPERWORK

PAPERWORK
11.08.2009
Big news! Since some time I have been doing some freelance work for the magazine l'Officiel NL. So, my ideas about what's hot and not in the amazing worlds of fashion and art are now also available on paper! I'm very happy!

l'Officiel was founded in France, and is one of the major fashion magazines over there. Since some time, there is also a Dutch version: l'Officiel NL. It's truely a great read and one of the most inspiring magazines we have in our tiny country. If you don't know it yet, buy it some time, you won't regret it!

And ofcourse: check out the September issue for my first contibutions!

NICE PART DEUX

NICE PART DEUX
10.08.2009
Back from France! And very happy to be home again. I love the mountains in the background, the warm temperatures, the beaches and the shopping. But... I also missed the super inspiring city of Amsterdam and all of the beautiful Dutch people. In Nice I discovered once again that heat doesn't make you very productive. It makes you a bit slow and somewhat lazy. Which is wonderful for a vacation! And I enjoyed doing nothing immensely. But now, back to work and back to fashion.

The international Fashion Weeks are coming soon, and I still have some Amsterdam Fashion Week pics to share with you. Also, I've had a very nice conversation with Garance Dorť during AIFW which I'm dying to share with you. But first things first: ofcourse I did some shopping in France and here are my finds.

1: My very cute purple Bensimon sneakers. Every self respecting French man, woman or child ownes a pair of Bensimons and it's high time the Dutch followed their example. Simple, easy, goodlooking.

2: A must have, for me at least, for this fall: A huge leopard print scarf. I got mine at Galerie Lafayette in Nice.
