BARE FACES RULE

Be suspicious of fashion girls with a full face of make-up. The real fashion geniuses hardly wear any at all. Look at Emmanuelle Alt, Erin Wasson, Garance Doré and royal fashion highnes Katie Grand.

RADICAL DUDE!

RADICAL DUDE!
25.09.2009
Hmm... remarkable! There is a lot of surf, skate and sports inspired fashion going on during the fashionweeks so far. Look at Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and Prada for instance. The funny thing is: how come big trends like these always occur at the same time? Is this a sort of collective-mind-thing? Or do the fashion designers have secret meetings we're not invited to?

Miuccia Prada always triomphs in simplicity and elegance. No flashy ultra fashion-y collections and shows for her! What she did for Spring/Summer 2010 was again timeless.

Oh, how I love what Christopher Bailey did for Burberry! He completely changed the brands image. I really liked his last couple of shows. And with the S/S 2010 he did a nice job again.

MOST of all, I adore the shoes. Terrible for walking, but so damn sexy. And I'm definitely trying the sock-in-shoe thing next summer.

You know what, I love the shoes so much, I'm going to dedicate an entire part II post to them!

MIRTE MAAS

MIRTE MAAS

A new Dutch girl is hitting the scene big time in New York. Mirte Maas has done so many shows the last couple of days, I've lost count. And yes, she is indeed fabulous. Gorgeous in a non girly way. She has a really cool look to her, which is exactly what designers want these days. Represent!

Loved the Phi show! Very tough and survival-like.
But maybe most of all, I liked the hair! Hairstylist Guido Palau did a great job: wild tousled manes, every girls wish...

THE JACKET

THE JACKET
18.09.2009
A couple of weeks ago, I showed you the blue Zara jacket I then just bought. I was very proud and all for it being blue and not black or grey, my usual colours.
And today I found out, as I was scouring the internet, that Taylor Tomasi, senior accessories director at Teen Vogue, has the exact same jacket! She's been spotted wearing it during new York Fashion Week yesterday. I like this because I admire her sense of style. So the fact that we chose the same garment, makes me feel good about my own sense of style.

The thing is, I can't show a really good picture of this fact. Damn. This is because the picture I'm talking about (the good one) is shot by Tommy Ton for Style.com. He is their new street photographer during fashion week. (Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) used to do this, but he is too busy with his book coming out.) And for some reason, and they NEVER did this before, Style.com made it impossible to copy his shots. As I said: damn. Why is Style.com doing this, I ask you? Isn't it nice to inspire people and to let them 'spread the word'?

Well, the only thing I can do now is give you the link. I know, it's a pathetic way of doing things. Ignore it if you want.

Anyways, nice jacket!

Marc Jacobs, did it again: he turned our fashion worlds upside down. While everybody is doing black, leather and studs, he gives us Asia, draping, geisha and pastels. Beautiful and intruiging details, daring combinations and guess what... the fanny pack is back.

WANG S/S 2010

13.09.2009
I was so looking forward to the Alexander Wang show and he did not disappoint me! I was a little bit afraid he would again show blackblackblack leather and skinny pants. BUT... this was actually new. I saw a lot of grey and brown, and rock 'n roll sportswear (!). A new vibe was in the air.

Close to the end, there suddenly was a bit of a shift. Black and white made their entrance on the catwalk and the very typical Wang silhouette appeared. This little trip down memory lane was ok, because he started out so fresh. But if you ask me, he could've skipped it.

To make a long story short: I liked it! Especially the leopard print shoes!

IEKELIENE

IEKELIENE
12.09.2009
New York Fashion Week JUST started and our Dutch super model Iekeliene Stange is already kicking ass! She already did Cushnie et Ochs, Jason Wu, Juan Carlos Obando, Ruffian and Yigal Azrouël. She opened and closed Cushnie et Ochs and Juan Carlos Obando, and was second out at Yigal Azrouël. That is a nice score for just 2 days!

I also saw Kim Noorda and Ymre Stiekema and a couple of other Dutch girls, but Iekeliene is everywhere! Maybe it has something to do with her art exhibition a few weeks ago in London, perhaps the fashion crowd now finds her extra interesting?

WISH LIST

07.09.2009
Ah yes... net-a-porter.com... Shopping heaven for the rich and famous (and the fashion obsessed). They sell gorgeous stuff and I've heard that receiving a package from them is heavenly alone, because of the nice wrapping and the beautiful box. I wouldn't know, 'cause I've never ordered anything. Too expensive. But this does not mean that I don't keep track of everything they do and keep a wish list!

* Preen sheep skin coat
* Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Python bag
* Brian Atwood suede thigh high boots
* Rick Owens leather jacket

Can someone please hook me up?

Step away from the opaque black tights! The new things in town are the polka dot transparant tights. Already seen in many fashion magazines and the main character in the fall/winter Balenciaga show. Get them while they're hot!

ZARA

ZARA
04.09.2009
Ok, what’s the deal with Zara? I go there a lot. I always try on A LOT. But I hardly ever buy anything. And when I do buy something, I usually return it within a few days. Why? WHY? All this buying and returning is a pathetic way of keeping yourself busy.

But the thing is this: most of the times, the item I bought loses it’s appeal as soon as I get home. The sparkle of buying it (or something…) is gone and a plastic unpleasant garment is left.

For example:
I recently bought a fake chain Chanel bag, but as soon as I started wearing it, I noticed that the lock didn’t work. So, back to the store!
A few days ago I bought black ballerina flats, with a silver nose. Cute! But after the few steps from my sofa to my kitchen, my heels where completely stripped of their skin (yak…). So, they have to go as well.

Zara makes cool stuff. But the fit is so bad most of the times and the quality sucks. And the pieces that are, in fact, nice and good, are way too expensive. I’m not paying 120 Euros for a Zara jacket! That’s just insane. In that respect, I prefer H&M.

BUT: ones in a while you find a treasure… And that’s why you keep coming back. Look at these sweatpants! A perfect rip off from Isabel Marant spring/summer 2009 and I love them! And they’re 25 Euros! LOVE!
